About the Stockton Tennis Club

Stockton Tennis Club was founded in 1897 and offers singles, doubles and mixed doubles tournaments on a regular basis. Players ranging in skill levels from beginners to advanced levels and everything in between participate. We also offer social events to allow players to get better acquainted.

Each year Stockton Tennis Club has an annual tournament that helps to raise funds which are donated to a local non-profit organization. We play tennis and are also civic minded!

Other member benefits include being listed in the STC Membership Directory so other members can contact you to schedule matches and five raffle tickets to get you started at the annual Century Banquet.

Your membership fee contributes to the maintenance of the tennis center, helps pay for the cable TV subscription, and supports scholarships for local area high school students.

Club History

The Stockton Tennis Club operates out of Oak Park Tennis Center which is owned and operated by the City of Stockton.  Part of the arrangement between the Stockton Tennis Club and the City of Stockton is that the club promotes area tennis and helps with the maintenance of the site.  The Stockton Tennis Club (STC) was originally founded in 1897 in an era of long white pants and pear shaped racquets.  At the time, the Club used three dirt courts located at the corner of Hunter and Flora Streets.  The Club then moved to California Street across from the old Stockton High School where three courts were constructed and used for many years.  In 1921, the City of Stockton's Recreation Department built the first asphalt surfaces.  Four more courts were added at the east end of the clubhouse, bringing the total number of courts at the Oak Park public tennis facility to ten.
